The Healing Properties of Vitamin Supplements
Wednesday, September 10th, 2008Vitamins and minerals have had a really good rap over the last decade or so, but despite what some people say, they are not a magic pill. Having said that, it is genuinely tempting to look at them in that manner. Anything that may help hold back the years, look more radiant, stave off cancer and heart disease, invigorate your immune system, battle against viruses and colds, help you work with anxiety attack and supercharge your energy certainly sounds moderately miraculous or magical.
Not so long ago, when word of mouth started to spread the benefits about the medicinal potential of vitamins and minerals, people went wild for health supplements and were desperate to find out if they could possibly be included in a liver detox diet regime. As it happened, so did health practitioners and even some doctors. As word spread, you’d be forgiven for thinking that by taking a healthy dose of vitamins you could cure pretty much any illness. Simply load up with plenty of the life enhancing vitamins, and voila! Perfect health was here to stay.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. As we now know, health supplements, regardless of how powerful they may be, can’t fix every illness known to man. They do, however, have an important part in our diets. A lot of clinical studies just recently are making interest in the topic heat up all over again. Some of the things that scientists have discovered about the healing power of these vital nutrients will blow your mind.
Lets look at one study in particular, out of the many, about the impact of vitamins. Researchers in London looked at 180 middle managers employed in the manufacturing industry in Britain. In the program, one group were given a traditional vitamin supplement and another group a look-alike pill that did not contain nutrients. After 8 weeks, researchers concluded that the vitamin supplements brought about a significant improvement in quality of life.
The placebo group reported no significant changes to their wellbeing. The scientists determined that the vitamins and minerals did indeed have an impact on improving the workers attitude, wellbeing and overall stress levels. And all from a simple vitamin and mineral supplement… with all the hard core data to back it up.
As more and more rigorous scientific studies accumulate accumulating a wealth of information about the protective properties of these health supplements, especially when used to support a herbal detox diet, we’re all back where we were a few decades ago: eager to make use of these health enhancing properties – yet totally overwhelmed with the mass of mis-information on the subject. With all the evidence for the health benefits of vitamins and minerals now backed up by clinical trials, cutting through the sales hype when buying supplements can be hard work.
