Some Cool Giant Panda Facts

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Giant Pandas one of the most sought after animals to look at in zoos. No wonder, they’re cute and extremely cuddly looking and they are also extremely rare.

The Giant Panda is on the endangered species list and because of their habitat continuously being lost to development in China, it looks as if they will be for a very long time.

In addition to the loss of habitat, they also have a very low birth rate and when one is born it is often extremely worthy of receiving worldwide news attention.

Along with these Giant Panda Facts, another reason they are in the endangered species is the because they have come under the gun of poachers. Poachers hnt and kill Giant Pandas because their fur is not only a rarity because it’s black and white but also because it’s so soft.

Often and sadly, the price and the desire for panda skins was such that many officials would ‘look the other way’ and aided the poachers to fulfill the demand on the black market.

Scientists estimate (though some would say it’s an underestimate) that there are only around one thousand Giant Pandas remaining in the wild. Because of this and changing world views, the number of reserves in China for pandas has gone from just thirteen to forty in just twenty short years.

As such, and by using advanced DNA analysis of droppings researchers say now that there may in fact be somewhere around three thousand Giant Pandas remaining in the wild.

Energize Your Ad Campiagn

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Looking for that new something to put the zing back into your advertising campaign? Tired of the “say it” and hope someone hears you advertising methods? Ready to take control of your advertising?

You can now give targeted, attentive customers your sales message. This new service will allow you to play a 5 second audio advertisement any time of day directly to customers’ computers. I am not talking about just anyone on the Internet–I am talking about people in your local town, county, state, or country!

Peaked your interest yet? Well, think about it this way. Radio and TV advertising broadcasts your message in hopes that someone will hear it. But how many times have you yourself gone to get a snack or something to drink during those commericals? NetAudioAds™ is a new way of delivering your message directly to an individual while they are surfing the Internet on one of the tens of thousands of websites (and growing) out there ready to play your message when your targetted customer arrives at their website.

How does that work you might ask? As someone (a potential customer) from your selected geographical area gets on their computer and starts surfing, they are bound to land on one of the many NetAudioAds™ enabled websites. It does not matter if your customer is in Great Britian and they are surfing a site in Germany. The system still knows that this user is from your targeted geographic area and will therefore play your Internet Audio Advertisement for them. You can even choose to use what’s called a “K2P” advertisement. This type of ad lets you define a web address that the user will be sent to when they press a specified key.

Let your message be heard. To find out more about how you can be a part of this advertizing revolution, click here today.

Kayaks, Fishermen & Dogs – Friends or Foes?

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I have a bee in my bonnet at the moment and I make no apologies for it. You see I love the outdoors and I love outdoor sports. I love them so much that I started an Outdoor Sports Magazine to promote the many and varied activities that we can enjoy around the world.

In researching interesting stories and content for that website I come across countless bad news stories and complaints from  people who seemingly object to anything and everything.

The latest complaint that caught my eye comes from the fishing fraternity. What have fisherman a need to complain about (I am one by the way)? Canoes and Kayaks apparently. Fishermen in the UK want kayaks and canoes banned from rivers and lakes. Apparently it ruins the sport and damages the environment. Come on guys give me a break.

Whatever happened to understanding and cooperation? All I see these days are minorities pitching themselves against one another like they have a given right to have exclusive access to the countryside.

Surely, a canoesit or kayaker (I am one by the way and even offer a range of cheap kayaks and used kayaks for sale) has as much right to enjoy the rivers and lakes as an angler, bird spotter (I’m one of those as well) or walker (and one of these – strangley).

So I’m fed up of all these pettry confrontations and disputes. What’s worse is that even significant minorities are being victimized nowadays. Before long you wont be able to take your dog for a walk in the country (they’re already banned from many parks and beaches). Nope, mans best friend isn’t wanted either and yes I am a dog owner as well.

So apparently, as a kayaker I don’t like fisherman, as a fisherman I don’t like kayakers and as I dog owner I dislike everyone. It seems that co-existing in todays world, even with yourself, is becoming a bit of a challenge.

Strangeley enough I do not dislike any of these and love the diversity they bring to the Outdoor World.  In fact, I look forward to welcoming more on more people to the wonderful world of outdoor sports.

Play Better Golf with Custom Clubs

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

People spend a lot of money buying golf equipment and golf swing training devices hoping to improve their handicap, only to be disappointed. The problem is not with the clubs or the swing aid per se, it’s just that your golf clubs may not be customized to your body.

It has been shown that there are certain angles that your spine and arms need to be in to swing the golf club optimally . Golf clubs that are too long or too short can take you out of these optimal positions before you ever swing the club. This faulty setup is a surefire way to ruin your swing . Your body will either be out of position for the entire swing or you will be fighting to return to the proper position, only to have the club head at the wrong place at impact. The end result will be poor shots, topped balls and shanks – an overall bad golfing experience .

The way out of this cycle is to have clubs that fit you . Custom made golf clubs sound really expensive and they can be if you go to your local club pro and try to have him make you a custom set. Remember that you are paying boutique prices at a local pro shop. They charge a lofty markup on the clubs they sell, which are already inflated from the manufacturer due to tour player endorsements and fat TV advertising budgets. By skipping over all those middlemen costs, you can save a bundle of money some serious cash and still get great clubs.

I highly recommend that you save the money you normally pay to major golf manufacturers and buy clone golf clubs. You will get all the benefits at half the price (sometimes even up to 80% less!). The new clone clubs you buy will have all the same latest improvements in golf technology, and best of all, they can be custom fit to you! There are several different online custom golf club fitters, but the best one I have found is Gigagolf. They have an easy eFit system that let’s you enter some easy measurements like your height and distance from hands to the ground. These allow them to build you a set of custom golf clubs using quality components that will improve your score and make the game more enjoyable. Here is a page that has all the current Gigagolf Coupons.

Go explore all your discount golf club clone options. They will help you hit the ball longer and straighter, lower your score and help you have a lot more fun enjoying the game.

CNC Lathe Parts Information

CNC

There are many components of a CNC lathe machine and they are important to the function of the process. There are going to be differences between people’s CNC Lathes because everyone does different things with their lathe.

No matter which CNC Lathe you look at you will find a few similar parts such as the headstock, carraige, bed, and tailstock. Many have stable bearing surfaces that are broad and they work with excellent precision. When the machine is stable it can manufacture parts that meet the requirements for both repeatability and tolerance.

Here are the major parts of the CNC Lathe and the function of each:

Headstock: There are many parts to the headstock and this is where many of the functional pieces of the machine reside. Here you will find the main spindle, the change gears and the speed change mechanism. Within the headstock you will have a strong design because it has to cut with a variety of force. If it were light it would create problems with vibration that would distort the finished piece and destroy its quality.

Bed — the bed is actually the base of the headstock and it allows connects to it. The bed helps set the carriage and the tailstock in perfect parallel alignment to the spindle axis. A part called a way holds the carriage and the tailstock onto the track. The carriage travels along the machine using a rack and pinion system. It also includes a leadscrew that keeps it on am accurate pitch or it has a feedscrew.

Feed or Leadscrew — both of these helps with the gears of the CNC lathe machine. The feedscrew is the drive shaft for the machine and works with the gears to drive the mechanism of the carriage. The feedscrew is also driven by either the quick change gearbox or the change gears. There are other gears that allow for the correct ratio so that the parts that are made are accurate.  The feedscrew and leadscrew work together with the spindle to make the correct amount of screw threads on the work that you are doing.
Carriage — within the carriage is the tool bit that turns either in a perpendicular or longitudinal direction depending on how the operator controls it. The operator will set this on a CNC Lathe where it would use a handwheel on the older machines. The handwheels are there and can be used to manually move the carriage or to automate it. Also, the handwheels have calibrations on them for ease of use.
Cross slide — this is a small part that sits on top of the carriage. It has both a main spindle axis and a leadscrew. The leadscsrew actually moves along the main spindle axis in a perpendicular fashion so that it can perform facing operations; only one direction can be done at a time.
Depending on the CNC Lathe you have, there will also be a computer component where you can program either the CAD or CAM program to do exactly what you want it to do. Although these machines seem complicated, they are not as difficult once you start to use it.

Basics of Gravity Casting

Gravity Casting

Metal Casting is more than just an excuse to play with molten metal it is actually a great way to create art and complicated pieces of machinery or other items that would otherwise be nearly impossible to make. Metal Casting is really a great way to save money…while playing with molten metal.

The reason that Metal Casting has survived the test of time is a matter or efficiency. Some of the earliest casting examples have been found in China dating back thousands and thousands of years. In fact every major civilization from the Egyptians to the Romans practiced metal casting. This skill came back into vogue during the Renaissance and has continued to advance and evolve from there. While Sand Casting is the most popular casting process there are many, many more processes available to the backyard foundries.

Not everyone is going to be casting heavy pieces like engine parts or cast their own motorcycles. So for those that just want to make decorative pieces you will not be using the same casting process as these heavy duty casters.  For artists creating small scale statues or embellishes and for hobbyists that need a decorative touch to their model plane or boat might want to consider using gravity casting for their needs.

Gravity casting seems to be especially useful when dealing with aluminum and other light alloys. The name “casting” or “metal casting” really describes exactly what the task itself is. The metal is introduced into the mold by the force of gravity. Most other casting process either use natural pressure difference like the kind in certain sand casting procedures or they use forced pressure like in centrifugal casting to get the molten metal into the mold.

One of the most common uses for Metal Casting is when permanent molds are going to be used. Also called a die, the permanent mold is really only economical for those planning on using the same mold numerous times and will need to keep the quality at a constant level. While some temporary molds can be repeatedly used the quality of the finished product will begin to suffer over time. With die molds the quality will remain the same. Die molds should be seen as an investment. Yes, they will be more costly then other molds; however they will outlast cheaper options for molds. Steel, Cast Iron and a variety of other metals are what permanent molds are created out of.

Gravity casting is used for the permanent mold process with pleasing results. Gravity casting is usually used when the finished product is more visually based then structurally based which is why this method is a favorite of artists and even some jewelers. The loss of strength is due to the lack of pressure used in this process. For those that need the strength but still want to use gravity casting, more of the molten metal will need to be used which will increase the weight.

Relying on gravity will take patience, although it will be needed for larger products.

If you have never tried gravity casting then you should, because you just may be surprised by what such a simple thing like gravity can create. For the sake of humor, make an apple and see what happens.
