Fear Of Public Speaking, the Best Way to Get Rid of It

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Do you have nightmares about public speaking? When you have to stand up in front of a group does your mouth go dry? Hands shake? Stomach turn flip-flops? Feel lightheaded? Think you may pass out?

Welcome to the club. If it’s any comfort, you are not alone!

According to a well-known survey, 65% of us would rather die than speak in public. Many have tried for years to overcome their fear and given it up as hopeless. But wait! There is hope.

We can now turn to one tested method to end the fear of public speaking that has been shown to yield amazing results. It is The Lefkoe Method (TLM).

Probably the least known, but possibly the fastest way of getting rid of the fear of speaking in public, is The Lefkoe Method (TLM). TLM is based on the knowledge that our behavior is governed by what we believe to be true. Therefore, it focuses on finding the 10 or so negative beliefs that make us fear public speaking. These can be such beliefs as, Mistakes and failure are bad; If I make a mistake, I’ll be rejected; or People aren’t interested in what I have to say; etc.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of this approach is how consistently it works. In a study published by the Journal of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, university researchers found that on a scale of 1-10, participants who used TLM lowered their fear of public speaking from an average of 7 down to 1.5 (1 was a lack of any fear at all). It took an average 3.5 hours for participants to reach this level. In follow-up six months later, the fear had not returned. Based on this evidence, the researchers concluded that, The Lefkoe Method is an effective, quick, and convenient procedure to eliminate the fear of speaking in public.

TLM was created over 20 years ago by Morty Lefkoe, founder of The Lefkoe Institute. He and several other certified facilitators have helped over 12,000 clients rid themselves of their fear of public speaking, along with many other emotional and behavioral problems. Their Speaking Without Fear Program is offered with a money-back guarantee: if your fear is not gone in four or less one-hour telephone sessions, you’ll get a full refund. For more information visit: Fear of Public Speaking.

The Lefkoe Institute (TLI) has a money back guarantee and a 97% success rate.

Keep in mind that most people who have benefited from TLM agree that the skill of the practitioner is of the utmost importance in determining the effectiveness of the program. If you really desire to overcome your fear of public speaking, be sure you are working with someone who is highly skilled, gives you confidence in his/her ability, and makes you want to succeed. And about that money-back guarantee? Couldn’t hurt.

Searching for the Best Massage Therapist in Indianapolis?

Monday, December 15th, 2008

As the weather gets colder, your schedule gets busier and your muscles get tighter, you might find yourself looking for an Indianapolis massage therapist.  So, which therapist should you turn to when you need a well deserved massage.  How do you find the best?

What Do You Want?
First, you’ll need to decide what type of massage service you are interested in. There are many massage therapists in Indianapolis and each has their own skill set.  Do you want a traditional Swedish Massage or an intensive “Pfrimmer”?  Are you pregnant and seeking a Prenatal Massage?

When you call your prospective therapists, be sure to ask and confirm that the massage therapist you choose has at least a year or two of experience in the massage therapy you are interested in.

Drive Time
Next, decide how far you are willing to drive for “the best”.  If possible, don’t limit your search to your zip code or your side of town.  Interview massage therapists in a 10-15 mile radius to increase your chances of finding the best one.

Is price your main concern?  If so, then it is even more important to expand the scope of your search.  Check surrounding towns and cities that are within a distance you’d be willing to drive.  Often times, massage therapists in towns surrounding big cities have better rates and offer specials for regular massage clients willing to drive a few minutes extra.

Your Pampering Quotient

Now, your preference for how pampered you want your massage experience to be will now determine if you call Day Spas or dedicated massage therapy studios.  Just so you know, typically a day spa has less experienced therapists because they pay by the hour and few experienced massage therapist are willing to accept hourly pay.  However, that does not mean you won’t find an excellent therapist in a Day Spa.  In fact, some of the higher-end Day Spas offer the best of both worlds, top notch therapists in a beautifully pampered setting.  But, of course, all this comes at a price.

If you want an experienced professional at a reasonable rate, your best bet is to call a massage studio or an individual massage therapist.  Most massage studios in and around Indianapolis are listed in the yellow pages or pop up when you do a Google search for “Indianapolis massage therapy”.

Finding an top-notch individual therapist can be a bit more difficult, especially if they work remotely or by appointment only.  Often times, this is where the “best of the best” reside –but they usually have a large client base and are booked for weeks.  These therapists have paid their dues and don’t need to spend much on marketing to stay busy.

Credentials to Look For
Massage therapy is soon to be sanctioned in Indiana so anyone offering massage services will have to be officially licensed, but this is not the case yet.  So, look for massage therapist with the following credentials.

Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) – means they have received formal training from an accredited school, not just a weekend crash course

ABMP or  AMTA Registration – these are professional trade organization that serious therapist pay to belong to

Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapist (PDMT)  – a specific type of “advanced” massage therapy requiring specialized training and certification

Make Your Calls
So now that you have the preliminaries out of the way, it is time to call a few massage therapists.  Your objective is to not only get your questions answered, like “what do you specialize in?” and “do you have any specials?” but also determine if the therapist meets your personality preferences.

Every massage therapist has a different approach.  Therapeutic massage can be a very personal & powerful experience, both positive and, unfortunately, negative.  It is my belief that a truly skilled massage therapist can bring your body’s energy back into balance and leave you feeling centered and much stronger than you were before you arrived. An unskilled therapist does the opposite.  Often times, a massage therapist’s level of positive (or negative) energy is apparent on the initial call with a new client, you just have to be looking for it.

Although the steps above may take you an extra 30 minutes or so, they will help you avoid wasting time & money on a bad massage.  So, take the time and be sure to find the very best massage therapist Indianapolis has to offer.

Homeopathic Treatments are Center Stage

Monday, December 15th, 2008

While a lot of the world continues with regular medicine, some areas are latching onto methods that are not new, but are finally receiving the respect they deserve.  I’m talking about natural remedies, or homeopathic treatments.  Recently Health Concern Studies did research in three areas where natural treatments seem to excel.

The first part deals with treatment of the onset of common illnesses, like the common cold.  In this case, homeopathic remedies tended to lessen the affect of the illness, and quicken the recovery process.  Some studies, using the EPFX biofeedback device showed that patience quickly responded many feel because they found out, by using the device, what areas they might treat.  For example, a feedback screen might show a deficiency of vitamin K.

Next, home remedies were shown to actually cut down the recovery time after injury or surgery.  Most of the therapy was simple touch and prayers offered on behalf of the patient.  The effect seemed more prominent if the patient knew that people were praying for them and that they really cared for the person.  However, in some cases where the patient did not want the treatment, prayers, etc, the patience did no better than traditional medicine.

And finally, the area that was affected probably the most from natural healing was for people suffering from depression.  The treatment invoived using herbs and aromatherapy oils that lift the spirit and prayers for the patient by a group of caring people.  It may sound simply, but actually there is a lot of proof in many families that this particular treatment works.

Yet the key to the whole treatment for depression rested on one thing.  When the patience was in a state where they could actually move about, they were told that the best treatment for them was to go and do an act of genuine kindness to someone else.  Although this proved hard for many, it was the single thing that took them from a depressive state to one where they felt worth.

Natural treatments are here to stay. But just now they are more in the spotlight.  Even many traditional doctors are now starting to open up to this world.  The main problem in the path of homeopathic medicine is the pharmaceutical giants and the sad state of health care in nations that profit wildly from the pain and suffering of others.  Once that changes, people will live longer and healthier.
