Britney Spear’s shocked as her twitter account has been hacked

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Twitter is one of the new revolutionary websites that millions of people worldwide use today. You are able to update all of your friends in an instant who ‘follow’ you on twitter. Much like updating your status on facebook Twitter offers, um, well nothing new! However, according to Britney Spear’s Twitter account she has undergone some rather radical transformations. Apparently according to Britney fans, her account was hacked and then left with an updated status reading, ‘Hi Yall! Brit Brit here, just wanted to update you on the size of my vagina. Its about 4 feet wide with razor sharp teeth.’ Within moments, the updated news feed on Britney’s Twitter account reached hundreds of thousands of people computers and smart phones where people were shocked and quite confused with what had happened.
This wouldn’t of been the first time that her social media side has been exposed. Last year it was revealed that she was allergic to horses. But a vagina in 122cm in circumfrance with razor sharp teeth? I don’t think this was Britney Spears, rather a hacker with far too much time on his/her hands. It was confirmed earlier on today by Britney Spear’s social media director that the Twitter account had been temporarily closed until further notice. “The account was hacked and we are working closely with Twitter to rectify the problem as soon as possible. The offending message has since been removed from Britney’s Twitter account and a representative from the Britney Spear’s team has stated they “did not mean to offend anyone”. The latest Twitter feed just reads, “Just heard Brit had a great time in Louisiana”. I have never really found a good use for Twitter accounts. They are pretty useless if you ask me. What can twitter do that facebook can not? I would argue that Facebook is far more popular anyway! I’m all for celebrity exposure through social media but I really don’t think Twitter offers anything out of the ordinary. I think it would be time to go back to the drawing board and re-think the site!

Is Blu-Ray the right step forward?

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Going high definition was high on our Christmas lists this year as sales as reputation of the Blu-Ray movies rocketed through the roof. In all honesty, I hadn’t seen what a Blu-Ray was capable of until I had looked at one my brother had purchased. When I saw the quality and clarity a Blu-Ray disc could produce I was amazed. It is absolutely magnificent. I can only say that it looks so real you feel as though you can put your arm into the screen. It is like nothing I have ever seen before.

According to figures that were released by the British Video Association (BVA), sales on the Blu-Ray disc were up four hundred percent on the same period compared to the year before, with 1.5 million titles shifted in December alone. The lead selling Blu-Ray movie was ‘Dark Knight’ starring the late Heath Ledger and Cristian Bale. Everyone knows that to introduce a bran-new video player of any sort is no easy task, getting everyone to own one of the Blu-Ray players is the key. They have to be affordable and the benefits have to be clear. There have been a few developments in recent years after the DVD that haven’t caught on at all, one of them being the ‘HD DVD’ and the ‘Mini DVD’ which is practically un-heard of. Yet, Blu-Ray disc is something different. It offers something that films have never offered before and that is un-paralleled quality and detail. When you watch a Blu-Ray film for the first time it is kind of a head spin because your eyes are not use to that sort of quality on a TV screen. After a short while you get use to it and when you do, there is no coming back! I have seen the Dark Knight on Blu-Ray and it almost feels like it is a different film all together.

I am a firm believer that the Blu-Ray will catch on with the public and will be the next progression in disc technology purely because it offers something that nothing else does. If you haven’t seen anything on Blu-Ray then please get yourself down to the nearest video shop and treat yourself. As far as getting a Blu-Ray player – the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player, other than that most modern flat screen TV’s all have Blu-Ray players in them so you could always get one of those.

Choosing the right tile for your project.

Monday, January 19th, 2009

A nice thing about the ceramic tile industry is that there is a widely-accepted rating system for durability. Our system rates the surface of a tile from Class 1 to Class 5 (“1″ being the least resistant to abrasion and “5″ the most resistant). This allows you to choose the right tile for the application.

Wear Rating System:

While the composition of tiles may differ, the most important attribute to a tile is its wear rating. The wear rating is a tile’s ability to resist scratching from surface abrasion. The chart below shows how tiles are rated. Keep in mind all 3 types of tiles described above come with various ratings, but through-bodied porcelains usually carry the highest rating of 5 – all residential and commercial use.

Wear Rating System:

Class 1: Wall Application Only.

Class 2: Light Residential Use. Class 2 tiles must not be used in residential areas that are subject to constant or heavy traffic. (i.e., kitchen)

Class 3: Residential Applications. Class 3 tiles are suitable for all residential applications.

Class 4: All Residential and Light Commercial Applications. Class 4 tiles may be used in all residential areas and light commercial applications. (i.e., restaurants, offices)

Class 5: Suitable for all Residential and Commercial Application. Class 5 tiles are suitable for all applications including those with heavy traffic and constant use. (i.e., Shopping Malls, Hospitals)

Choosing A Size:

Tiles are available in many sizes. The recent trend has been toward larger tiles for floor and wall applications. 13″ x 13″ has been our most popular size for floors and 8″ x 10″ the most popular for walls. The up and coming sizes are 16″ x 16″ for floors and 8″ x 12″ for walls. The reason? Larger tiles make a space appear…larger. Some floor tiles come in multiple sizes, which allow the creation of interesting patterns. Talk to us about the look you’re trying to achieve and we can steer you in the right direction.

The Rules of Color:

Of course, only you can decide what color is right for you, but here are a few basic rules to remember: Lighter colors make a space appear larger. Darker colors add warmth and hide dirt well. Neutral colors allow you to change your accessories but if you love a trendy color, go for it! Just keep in mind it will be with you a long time. The color shade or shades of all tile varies some degree from piece to piece, from each production run to run. At least several pieces from the same production run should be reviewed whenever possible to determine acceptable color shade variations. Any questions or concerns about your tile selection should be clarified prior to installation.

Texture Tips:

Generally speaking, textured or matte finish tiles are less slippery than smooth or shiny tiles – something to keep in mind when choosing floor tiles. A tile’s “slip resistance” is measured by its “coefficient of friction,” which is provided by some manufacturers.

Selecting A Style:

Rustic or stone-looking tiles are extremely popular because they fit in with any decor and are excellent at hiding dirt. Marbleized tiles lend a more formal look. Tumbled marble is a popular look for all types of decor. Glass tiles and metallic looks are now frequently used in conjunction with ceramic tile and natural stone to create a unique and striking installation. Visit one of our showrooms to see how different materials can be combined to make your project special.

Choosing A Grout:

Grout is available in a wide variety of colors. Using a grout which matches the tile tends to make the grout lines disappear. Using a contrasting color makes the individual tiles stand out. Our sales consultants will explain the different types of grout and how you can achieve the look you want.

Cooking Thermometers: The Different Types

Monday, January 19th, 2009

If you do a lot of cooking at home, you definitely need a cooking thermometer. Some of the most basic cooking methods (grilling, roasting and baking) require a specific range of temperature to be maintained during the cooking process. Using the wrong temperature not only will affect the taste, texture and appearance of your food, it might also encourage the presence of food-borne microorganisms.

Learn about the different types of cooking thermometers to see which one is right for your kitchen:

There are essentially three major types of cooking thermometers based on function. These are:

Candy thermometers

Candy thermometers are designed for use with confectionery. They are generally used to determine the temperature of candy syrup. For people who make candies or pastries, this type of thermometer helps determine important ranges in temperature for candymaking. This type of thermometer, for example, will indicate whether your candy syrup has reached the soft ball or hard ball stage.

These instruments are also important for measuring the percentage of sugar found in candy syrup, a critical function for producing candies such as caramels and sugar lollipops. Candy thermometers are also important for the successful tempering of chocolate.

Cooking thermometers

Cooking thermometers are all-purpose instruments used to determine the temperature of prepared food.

Meat thermometers

Meat thermometers are used primarily for determining the temperature of meat. This is an important function, particularly because raw meat such as poultry and pork might carry food-borne pathogens that are harmful for human consumption unless exposed to ideal temperatures during cooking.

Types of cooking thermometers according to design

There are several ways a cooking thermometer takes the temperature of the food. These include:

Oven-safe cooking thermometers

If you need a cooking thermometer that gives continuous reading of the temperature of the food while it’s being cooked or if you simply get a kick out of watching the dial turn, this is the type of cooking thermometer you should buy. Stick it into the thickest portion of the food, place the food in an oven or grill and allow it to cook, checking out the temperature from time to time.

Digital cooking thermometers

If you prefer a cooking thermometer that gives you a reading in an instant, buy a digital thermometer. In most cases, these are designed as probes – you stick the device into the meat or food so it can take the internal temperature. Digital cooking thermometers are designed to take the temperature of the food after it’s done and should not be left in the food while it’s being cooked.

Thermocouple

This is the perfect type of cooking thermometer to use if you want an instant reading and only want to take food temperature when the food is nearly done. It’s also capable of producing a fast read (2 to 5 seconds) and can take accurate temperatures of food regardless of thickness. This type also tends to be rather expensive.

Wireless cooking thermometers

The wireless cooking thermometer consists of two parts: one is the probe which you stick into the meat or food that you put in the oven or grill and the other is the wireless control. The probe takes the temperature of the food while the control shows you how high or low the temperature is. Once the food or meat has reached the ideal temperature inside the oven, the control will alert you.

Disposable cooking thermometers

This type of cooking thermometer is perfect for one-time use. They’re relatively cheaper and are the best choice for people who don’t feel the need to invest in a good cooking thermometer. They can provide the temperature of the food very quickly. Once you’re done with one, you can simply throw it away.
