Traits of Satellite TV Make It Superior To Cable TV

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Satellite TV is a futuristic technology that delivers a cost effective TV experience for people anywhere.  It has actually been around for quite a while, but rose to prominence back in the nineteen nineties when new technology made it possible to deliver TV programming over a satellite signal more effectively and with the use of smaller satellite dishes.

The fact that it became easier to deliver satellite TV service meant that satellite TV actually became affordable enough for most people to enjoy.  The smaller satellite dish had just as big of an impact though.  A smaller satellite dish meant that people could take advantage of satellite TV without having the unsightliness of the older, larger satellite dishes in their yards or attached to their houses.

This took away a big reason for a lot of people to choose cable TV or continue to rely on over the air TV.  Neighbors’ complaints about satellite dishes were no longer an issue and even if concerns of neighbors were never an issue, smaller satellite dishe meant not having to sacrifice space in the yard or garden!

On top of the advantage of the smaller satellite dish, satellite TV has one major thing going for it when compared to cable TV, and that’s bandwidth.  Bandwidth is the amount of information that can be transmitted a certain way in a given period of time.  The more bandwidth a TV delivery technology has, the more channels it can deliver.

Satellite TV simply has more bandwidth than cable TV.  In fact, it has a lot more.  While cable TV is limited to about three hundred channels, the big satellite TV providers have over eight hundred channels, when HDTV channel, normal TV channels, and satellite radio channels are all combined.  That’s definitely a testament to a lot of bandwidth!

Satellite TV also has a major economic advantage over cable TV.  This advantage comes from the fact that when one satellite is launched it can deliver TV programming to every household in the United States.  That’s because the TV signals that it broadcasts blanket the entire North American continent, and anyone who has a subscription to a programming package provided by the owner of that satellite can access the programs that are delivered by those TV signals.

In other words, everyone in America is a potential subscriber and it costs very little for a satellite TV company to add an extra subscriber- far less in fact than it does for a cable TV company to add an extra subscriber.

The fact that everyone is a potential satellite TV customer means that satellite TV companies and satellite TV subscribers enjoy an enormous economy of scale.  For example, while satellites are expensive to manufacture and launch, that cost can be spread out over a huge number of subscribers, making it cost very little to each of those subscribers.

As more subscribers are added- at very little extra cost after the satellite has been launched- more revenue comes in to the company, and that money can be used by the company to upgrade the services by purchasing more channels and perhaps launching more satellites.

All of this makes satellite TV a lot better than cable TV. Take a look at the current Direct TV deals now.

How to Create Stunning Minisites

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

If you want to make money online, creating and marketing with mini-sites is perhaps the fastest and cheapest way to achieve your goals.

Firstly, a “mini site” is targeted to a very tight niche market, and delivers very unique content, usually in the form of a members area. Mini-sites are not like blogs or other type of content sites; they sell access to the information instead of giving it out for free. A mini-site can have at bare minimum two pages; the sales page and the download page. Even larger minisites rarely have more than 10 pages, since the content itself is distributed in PDF formats.

Traffic from search engines is just one of the ways to make sales from your own minisite. Since all the really good content is behind closed doors, Google will never be able to index it and rank it. Therefore if you want to market mini-sites, you need affiliates – and LOTS of them. When your site is new and you need to make sales fast, a little bit of PPC knowledge comes in handy.

The most important part of any minisites, besides the content, is the sales page. You need to understand how to write basic sales copy that sells, and also arm yourself with a lot of sales page images and other images you can use to make your copy look appealing. Creating a pure-text sales copy is a big mistake, but most people still do it.

The overall design and appearance of your minisites also matters. You can either hire someone to create your design or you can buy instant mini site templates and easily put together a stunning site yourself.

Of course, in the long run you’ll also want to learn basic image creation and image editing skills to help lower the cost of creating minisites. GIMP is a great free alternative to Photoshop.

With a couple of good GIMP videos you can get all the skills you need as far as creating minisites is concerned, but you probably can’t make use of cool stuff like Photoshop e-book cover scripts and templates.

What could I expect to get for a brand new custom designed ecommerce website?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Basic web ecommerce shopping cart solutions capture email addresses, send receipts and send a thank you to buyers. However, most shopping cart services do much more.Shopping cart programs today help with website hosting, QuickBooks links, pricing, tax calculations and digital product downloads. Basic e-commerce systems commonly offer ready-to-use store templates or wizards that guide you through the setup process and help you get your store up and running. They also come with ready-to-use shopping cart soft that keeps customers purchases as they select them, calculates prices, collects the information about customers and then submits credit card information to your bank. When getting a website quote make sure these items are encluded. Basic computer literacy skills are strongly recommended. However, if your computer skills are weak, you may need extra patience with yourself and your computer.

Your visitors experience is more important than the design itself but design and usability should go hand-in-hand. Please, please, please do not hire someone who is a print designer or skilled illustrator familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite and can do fascinating things with color. Website design for small businesses and Search Engine Optimization , in particular, are tricky subjects; the instructors recognize this fact and are more than happy to clarify any aspect of the workshop that might be confusing to people. An interesting upshot of attending the SCORE workshops is that small business owners are given the opportunity to meet and network with those in their field?professionals with similar interests and knowledge of the local business environment. Website is search engine optimized and has back-end control panel for site editing and creation of new pages and products. Centauria previously designed a corporate identity package for the firm, including logo, business cards and stationary.

Small business web design is not just about having a website for the sake of having a website. It’s an extension of your business.
