I'd go ahead and try to run a disk check (chkdsk) on the unit. It is quite possible that the file structure of the unit is just fragged. Maybe you lucky and it'll be fixed. You can also download and run Hiren's Boot CD, http://www.kaldata.net/modules.php?modid=1&action=show&id=579. Run diagnose your hard drive manufacturer and see what exactly the problem. If the unit is good for the manufacturers diagnostics, run the Seagate diagnostic even if the drive is from Seagate, and run the test structure. If it becomes a bad file structure, you may have lost all data (if the chkdsk do not fix it) but your hard drive is in good condition and at least you can put a fresh load of Windows there.
