Data Recovery For External Hard Drive

When is a good place to send an external hard drive for data recovery?
I have an external hard drive from Seagate. He ran and called my son the table. Now the "plates do not rotate." I'm looking for a place to send my information to get back. Seagate is too expensive, Best Buy is $ 500 – $ 1500. Has anyone sent any of them successfully? Price? I especially want my photo out of it. Music, not so important.
Unfortunately, this will cost a lot. Specialization is required for a normal repair shop can not do. I think that requires a room that is completely free of dust, since a small portion of dust can destroy a hard drive if it gets inside. May or may not be worthwhile, depending on the files you have on your computer with respect to price. Either way, I would suggest that in the future to back up your data to another hard disk, so you do not lose the files. : (Sorry for the loss in the case of the files or the cost to recover.
