Getting a Good Deal on a PS3

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Searching for a PS3 on sale can be a daunting task. It seems that the demand is high enough that most stores don’t run sales or when they do it’s not much of a discount. It can be discouraging if you’re trying to save a few bucks.

I feel your pain! I have tried to justify the item in so many ways for so long. To start building a PS3 fund I thought I would begin by selling my old PS2 games. I’ve thought about going through my closet and digging out my old jeans to see what they might fetch on eBay. I dug through the basement in the junk room looking for old board games and stuffed animals to auction off online. We even had a yard sale so I could try to earn enough money to buy the PS3. Not including my time I made about $50. By the way, garage sales will not get you the most money! I definitely recommend auctioning your old stuff off on eBay, you’ll make much more money.

In days gone by I felt the same way. There really is no comparison with other gaming consoles. I was sold when I found it was Blu-Ray. Obviously, the games are awesome in HD and I just upgraded my Netflix membership to include Blu-Ray/HD movies as well. Good luck getting that point past the wife! Honestly, once we got HD and my wife watched it a few times we really only watch HD shows or movies. At the end of the day it turned out to be easy to persuade her to get the PS3 on every front except the price.

I’ve done some research and what I’ve found is that if you want the best gaming console on the market and you want to play Blu-Ray DVDs there simply isn’t a better value than the PS3. Even when it’s not on sale! The average Blu-Ray player will cost you $200-$250 but it doesn’t play games. While XBox does offer HD it is not the preferred format. Still, the challenge is getting a PS3 at a discount if at all possible.

I searched on eBay and some other traditional auction sites and found that there really aren’t any PS3 Sale Prices out there. You have to spend more than you normally would and get a “bundle” to really get the value. When I’m trying to spend as little money as possible this just doesn’t work for me.

I had to get creative with my thinking and break away from the herd. I started investigating unique bid auction sites. You’ll find a few out there for sure but one stands above the rest, www.auctions4acause.com. They have more everyday items available for auction, including the PS3, than any of the other sites. You’ll find cars, boats and vacations on the other sites. That’s fine and dandy but I just want the console!

I knew I had a winner when I found that site. They had 2 items going for them in that they had the item I wanted at a potentially very inexpensive price. I went there and created an account. I placed 3 bids and hoped that they were unique and the lowest. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it the first time. It was another week before I could bid on another one. I bid 3 or 4 more times, said my prayers and waited. Bingo! I won this time. 7 days later I was playing Hot Shots Golf on my new PS3. At the end I had dropped less than $60.64. Not too bad if I say so myself.

It can take a few minutes of reading to truly grasp the concept of the lowest unique bid auction style. But once you get it, it can be addicting. Since that time that I won the PS3 I’ve bid on and won 3 other items including an iPod Nano (they have the best iPod Prices) and $400 gas card. In total I’ve spent about $350 there and won over $1,200 worth of stuff.

So don’t go searching at Best Buy or Circuit City or Walmart for the best prices on the things you want. Create an account at Auctions4aCause and see what kind of deal you can get.
